The Story of Islamic Art in 99 Objects

Curated with Zayed University, the exhibition showcases art from Farhad Farjam’s extensive private collection. This spectacular and varied group of artworks displays exquisite technical refinement born of the exceptional craftsmanship that is characteristic of Islamic art at large. Together, these extraordinary works of art tell a story in visual and spiritual codes, revealing in both luxury and everyday objects, a glimpse of the sublime.

From Matisse to Warhol: Works on Paper by Modern Masters
January – March, 2010
Drawing on the impressive western section of Dr Farjam’s collection, From Matisse to Warhol encompasses many of the most revered artists of the 20th century, including Picasso, Dali and Chagall. Featuring works never before seen by the public, the exhibition focuses on the medium of paper, offering valuable insight into the creative process.
August – December, 2009
Qur’anic manuscripts and the art forms with which the word of God was recorded played a crucial role in the history of Islamic arts. The exhibition gives a close look at the richly diverse examples of Qur’anic manuscripts crafted over past centuries and reveals the evolution of intricate calligraphy, wonderful illustration, graceful ornamentation and overall sophistication that pervaded the art of the Holy Book.

March – July, 2009
For its first exhibition, The Farjam Collection @ DIFC showcased some of exquisite examples of Islamic art drawn from Dr Farjam’s collection. Spanning the history of Islam and covering a vast region, the exhibition featured a range of different kinds of Islamic artistic production, including manuscripts, calligraphy, metalwork, jewellery and miniatures.
